Although this is often a subject of jokes, for those who suffer, hemeroids are no laughing matter. They are the result of straining during bowel movements, which causes varicose veins in the rectal areas. Internal hemeroids oftentimes bleed, external hemeroids don’t. Poor diet, pregnancy, even a stressful lifestyle, all are causes of this problem. The difficulty of seeing a doctor and applying ointments or other treatments is a delicate task for everyone involved. Regardless of this, if it bleeds or not, hemeroids are painful, itchy, and too often they do not stay away, if cured. In extreme cases, some patients, have them removed surgically or with lasers.

There are alternatives to the holistic side of things … starting with preventive action. Avoiding a problem beforehand is always better than trying to solve it afterwards. The common North American food is geared to producing hemeroids – low fiber, high fat, refined carbohydrates and little water. Increased hydration – not necessarily the default application of 8 glasses per day for adults, but more than the small amounts most of us to take – is paramount in moving food through the digestive system and keeping it less solid. When stools are low in water content they are much harder to eliminate. That matter is only getting worse by eating a low-fiber diet, because the fiber is another important means to move waste matter along. Combined with the modern trend of many people leading sedentary lives, hemorrhoids are just waiting to happen in many cases. Why not try to prevent all these problems with a good, healthy, high fiber diet with plenty of water every day?
If it is too late for prevention and your doctor has diagnosed this unpleasant condition, instead of buying creams there are safe, reliable methods you can find at home. Only for external use, try Aloe Vera gel, always good for soothing irritations. Witch hazel is also recommended for the itching. Apple cider vinegar applied internally or on the affected area is another way to relieve pain. In the diet the malic acid helps clear the digestive system, applied on the outside, the vinegar disinfects and has a drying effect. Bioflavonoids, which are in citrus fruits, are good for strengthening the walls of the vein, which have become weakened. For those using certain medications grapefruit is not recommended, as it conflicts with a large number of drugs. Butcher’s Broom is a herb that can be used either orally or externally, and is known to reduce swelling and inflammation of blood vessels, but it is not recommended for pregnant women.

Another method of treatment somewhere between prevention and cure, is to elevate the feet during bowel movements. Keep a small stool (no pun intended) for the feet while sitting on the toilet to relieve the burden. Getting a little more exercise also will improve circulation and digestion.

With these tips, treatment of hemorrhoids still won’t be fun, but it is less likely to be as much of a pain. If you want to find out more about getting rid of hemeroids quickly, check out this simple 3-step-program that will easily help you get rid of the itching and burning of hemeroids.
