Pregnancy and Hemorhoids

When a woman discovers that she is pregnant, an overwhelming joy she felt because she has a living soul within her. But when hemorhoidscome along everything seems hard because of the discomfort it brings.

So what is the relation of hemorhoids to pregnant women?

Actually, hemorhoids are what we can call varicose veins (swollen blood vessels) in the rectal area. It can be in a size of a pea up to the size of a cherry. When you have this, you’ll feel just a little itchy and right-down pain that sometimes will lead to rectal bleeding particularly during bowel movement.

There is certain stage of the hemorhoids that goes through the anus and you’ll feel a soft, swollen part on you.

This is very common to pregnant women. It doesn’t matter if this is your first, second or third pregnancy, hemorhoids appears because of the health condition of the mother. During pregnancy hormonal changes sets-in, so it is advice to keep a special diet:

  • Daily intake of natural fruits and vegetables
  • Cereal with fiber content
  • Drink plenty of water daily – to avoid constipation
  • Avoid artificial juices
  • Avoid instant food and soft drinks – this have dehydrating effects.
  • Avoid eating meat (beef and pork, chicken)

Is there a relief for hemorhoids if  one’s pregnant?

Of course there is! Below are the lists:

  • Cold and warm compress in the affected area with witch hazel. This will give you slight comfort from the pain you are experiencing.
  • Use sitz bath. This is a small plastic basin fill it with warm water and then you sit on it allowing the rectal area dip on it.
  • You can ask your doctor for a product that can relieve your pain.

But it is best to avoid these things to happen to you. Unhealthy diet and lifestyle have a great impact on hemorhoids. Such as smoking, drinking, eating junk foods, midnight snacks, night life, and many more. Do exercise daily:

  • A simple walking for 1 kilometer daily will do. Don’t push yourself because you’re pregnant. While you’re doing this, inhale to your nose and exhale through your mouth.
  • When you are sitting down try to move your feet and legs to allow blood circulations.
  • Another exercise is Kegel exercise. This is contracting the inner part of the rectum and then relaxing it. Doing it for several times… will allow the muscles and blood vessel’s circulation thus relieving the pain of the pregnant mother.
